He had a great future in the sport, but the difficult nature and severe injuries led to the end of his career. Not finding himself in other professions, gradually drawn into the criminal world.

After five small cases, he meets Lester Cross, who also appears as a key character in the GTA story. Thanks to his intelligence and connections, he became an assistant in the planning of robberies. Illegal shipment of cargo to Canada brings the hero to Trevor Phillips. At the first meeting, there were misunderstandings that led to the death of an innocent person. According to the character, the experience of the first case with Trevor was the most terrible and unforgettable.

 Trevor comes home to Michael
Starting with small robberies, Michael gradually grew up to participate in large cases. Subsequently, he fully provided himself with illegal income. During a successful period of life, he met his wife, Amanda, who worked as a stripper. A little later, they have a child. The hero realizes the need to act carefully during robberies, since he now has a great responsibility for the family. After the events in North Yankton

Life in Los Santos with a family goes without illegal business. However, this does not make it any calmer: constant quarrels with his wife, problem children and acquaintance with Franklin Clinton, the second main hero of the GTA 5 campaign.

The hero spends all his free time by the pool or watching TV. His personal life is spoiled, his wife is cheating on him and Vice versa. Several times a week, Michael visits a family therapist.

The events of one of the usual days lead him to meet Franklin, when he tried to steal a car from a rich family. From that moment, the main storyline begins, in which Michael De Santa will be one of the key figures.

Family and friends

Michael's family consists of 3 people:
  • Wife Amanda De Santa. A former stripper. I met my husband at work. He spends money on plastic surgery and tennis and yoga classes. Cheating on Michael with his coach. Due to an unsuccessful revenge on his wife's lover, the protagonist becomes indebted for a large sum to an influential businessman.
  • Son of Jimmy De Santa. A teenager whose only interests are light drugs, alcohol, hangouts, and video games. He tries to be friends with his father, but because of the difference in generations, he rarely finds a common language. Towards the end of the game, the relationship begins to improve.
  • Daughter of Tracy De Santa. The same relationship with his father as his own brother. The girl behaves defiantly and wantonly. She dreams of becoming a star, so she naively responds to any offers from TV viewers. She was saved many times by Michael from drug dealers and rape.
The main character begins with an extremely difficult relationship within the family, but the events of the game unite them. In the second half of the story campaign, contacts are established with the wife and children.

The protagonist doesn't have many real friends:
  • Franklin Clinton. For him, Michael becomes a partner and mentor in one person. Treats him like a son. This has a positive effect on the relationship with Jimmy.
  • Trevor Phillips. An old friend of youth, with whom you can steal, blow up or steal anything. He suffers from mental disorders, so Michael keeps him at a distance.
  • Leicester Cross.  A reliable adviser and partner of the hero, whom he met in his youth. Michael often defends a friend in front of abusers.
  • Solomon Richards. The hero meets a famous Director, because he always wanted to make his own movie. Gradually, the characters find common views and begin to make friends.
  • Dave Norton. The relationship of the main character with the employee of the Federal Bank can be called not friendly, but business and trusting. Despite being on different sides of the law, they are closely related to each other as a result of machinations from the past.

Character of the hero

In one of the conversations with Jimmy, the protagonist describes himself quite succinctly. Quote: "I always thought I was a good guy." The hero likes to spend a lot of time in self-examination, memories. Analyzes the past and tries to convince himself that he did the right thing. However, he admits that he would gladly change the criminal background for a quiet family life.

On reproaches in the direction of mistakes of the present and the past, he prefers to respond with sarcasm. Does not accept advice and opinions that differ from his own point of view. Constantly argues with others, does not recognize the wrong, acts as it sees fit. Does not consult with the family.

Interesting! In one of the missions, Michael puts pressure on a defenseless Lester-selects a cane and makes him apologize. A similar trick the hero tries to do with Franklin, but gets a sharp rebuff, which becomes a strong blow to self-esteem.

Appearance

Michael is an ordinary white man who looks about 50 years old. Height-1.88 cm. Has a small belly, although he was never fat and most of the time led an active lifestyle. Prefers to dress not flashy. Likes classic suits, shirts. She dresses in a high-end Ponsonbys store, despises cheap clothes and street style. Often wears Aviator sunglasses.

In the first trailer, Michael in GTA 5 looked much older. The developers have rejuvenated the final version of the character so that it looks organic in constant chases, shootouts and runs through the open world.

Michael's real prototype

As with other protagonists, this character was copied from a real person. He was an American actor Ned Luke, born in 1958. Initially, Ned refused the agent's offer to participate in the creation of a computer game. But after reading the full script, the actor agreed to audition. As a result, he was chosen as the prototype and voice of the hero in English voice acting.

Interesting! Michael, due to circumstances, moves the family to Los Santos, and the actor in reality, on the contrary, takes away relatives from Los Angeles, which became the prototype of the game city.

Character's house and car

The character lives with his family in a luxurious mansion. Its location is the elite area of Los Santos, Rockford hills, Portola Drive. The map is marked with a white house icon when playing for Michael. Tasks that appear in or near the mansion are marked M in blue.

At the disposal of the hero is a huge private house with all amenities. On the adjacent territory of the mansion, there are numerous shrubs, lawns, a recreation area and a swimming pool, near which the protagonist spends a lot of time. A garage is attached to the main building, from where Franklin steals a yellow jeep - the moment the two characters meet. In front of the garage gate, Michael's main car should be a black Tailgater business class sedan.

Later, Jimmy will start tuning the car in the youth style. You can also find a red convertible in front of the house at the beginning of the game. Michael's house in GTA 5 remains unchanged throughout the story. But his partners are moving to a completely new environment for them.

Characteristics and abilities

In GTA 5, Michael is the trio's strong point regarding the use of firearms. If Trevor gets into a rage, Michael can slow down time in shootouts. When using the ability, the gameplay resembles the Max Payne 3 shooter. The protagonist is inferior to Franklin in driving, and Trevor in hand-to-hand battles. The highest starting level has a shooting skill.

Participation in missions

The character appears in almost all story tasks that do not belong to a set of individual story and additional missions (only for Franklin or Trevor). In cooperative tasks, it is mainly used as a shooter or driver. Participation in the story can be divided into the following categories:
  1. The Main character in the prologue of the game.
  2. Plot plot, introduction to Franklin and the appearance of debts.
  3. Successful robbery in North Los Santos.
  4. Reuniting with Trevor.
  5. Tasks with the family and its individual members.
  6. Problems with the FRB, working for them.
  7. Plot denouement (death or rescue of the hero).

Tasks from the series "Weirdos and strangers" are available to Michael almost in full. Exceptions are only:
  • "Dealing with dealers". Random quest for Trevor to the North of the state.
  • A female passenger near North Calafia way. Only available for Trevor or Franklin.

Role in the end of the game

All three characters live from beginning to end, until Franklin is faced with a choice between two friends. Any choice strongly affects Michael's behavior and his continued existence:
  • Ending A. Franklin should be a hit man for Trevor. He asks for Michael's help in the murder. After a chase and an accident, the heroes blow up Trevor's truck. The surviving characters discuss the danger of a psychopath to others. Michael and Franklin's paths diverge on a friendly note.
  • Ending B. Franklin pushes Michael off the tower, but grabs his hand at the last moment. You can release your partner or try to save them-both options will lead to the death of the protagonist. Franklin and Trevor will live.
  • Ending C. Everyone stays alive. The heroes consult with Lester and trap the FRB forces, as well as the Merryweather company. During the showdown, Steve Haynes, Harold Joseph, and Chinese Wei Chen are killed.
