Rockstar Games had already visited Japanese capital a few years ago, apparently to assess the potential of this city as a possible site of action for another game of GTA series, but in the end they decided not to give this idea a big turn. It's hard to say exactly what is the reason, but there had to be some reasons. Including a very peculiar road system in Tokyo. Apparently, it's not so easy to move the game from the USA. Because in addition to racing and shooting, there is a plot in GTA, and countless hundreds of references to people and events. How easy is it for Scottish Studio and an American publisher to make such a deep game about Japan? And especially, make it so that the whole depth of the plot, well conceived game world and characters were understandable to everyone, not only indigenous to the Japanese.
However, again, all this is nothing more than rumors and conjectures. The only thing we know for sure is that Take-Two Interactive in December 2003 has registered three trademarks: GTA: Tokyo, GTA: Bogota and GTA: Sin City.
